6 Companies Who Rock Remote Workflow

At Boldly, we’re proud to be part of the remote work revolution.

Every day we show the world, and our clients, that you no longer need to hire in-office to find amazing talent for your team.

In fact, remote work is now considered the future: by 2020, studies estimate that 40% of Americans (60 million people) will be working from home. (source)

Still, as this shift continues to expand across multiple industries, many companies are struggling to master the flow of remote work. Time zone differences, communication snafus, and more can cause challenges along the road.

Fortunately, there are some companies truly finding ways to keep their teams working together beautifully, no matter how scattered across the world they may be.

These companies are creating win-wins, fostering amazing collaborations, and creating a positive, powerful location-independent employment cultures. They’ve found unique ways to tackle the challenges of remote work, unify teams, and improve both the lives of their workers, and the companies who hire them.

And the best news of all? They’re leading by example.

So without further ado, here are some of our favorite companies rocking the remote worksphere!

#1: Help Scout

Help Scout connects its clients with the customer support tools they need to grow (including help desks, customer resources, “How can we help?” chat boxes, and more).

But the ultimate mission at Help Scout is to create an exceptional business that raises every bar; from their quality of service, to work environment.

What does that mean exactly? At Helpscout, a “great business” showcases 5 key attributes:

  1. “Being a business people want to buy from
  2. Having a culture employees are proud to be a part of
  3. Championing its customers’ values
  4. Raising the bar for those that come after it
  5. Standing the test of time”

They make a point to help their 50 employees (spread across 32 cities) understand, and feel empowered by these values, and the overall mission. The team also gathers for in-person meet ups twice a year to maintain a sense of flow and connection. You can read more about that in this article on their blog.

#2 Buffer:

Buffer makes social media scheduling simple, beautiful, and more impactful.

But perhaps most interesting of all, is Buffer’s dedication to transparency. Their equity, salaries, revenue, pricing, diversity policy, and values are all available for public viewing right here.

One of their other top values we find most fascinating? “Choose Positivity”. And it’s apparently made a huge impact on their work culture.

According to a member of their team:

There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not fully recharged and truly happy throughout my workday, thanks to this cornerstone value and the way it shines through each team member. They all continually inspire me, and I’ve seen the ripple effect of this in every area of my life.” – Nicole”

#3 Basecamp:

Basecamp offers simple, intuitive project management software for teams (with or without a project manager!).

Basecamp has long been an industry thought leader; first at the forefront of the bootstrapping and the remote work movement, and now they’re at the cutting edge of the Calm movement, in an effort to make work life less chaotic, and more productive.

This is a remarkable feat for a company with a largely remote team, and even more remarkable for a company in one of the most cutthroat industries on the planet. Despite the high stakes, they choose to make reasonable workdays, and work life balance a priority.

#4 Flexjobs:

We have an especially soft spot in our hearts for Flexjobs, because they’re one of the current leading sites specializing in professional telecommuting, part-time, freelance, and technical jobs listings. They make it their mission to provide remote workers with quality opportunities that allow them to do their best work, from anywhere.

Their culture cements the reality that remote work is becoming more accepted, trusted, and relied upon. That means more and more people have the opportunity to work from home, have a flexible schedule, and pursue the work they’re passionate about.

Flexjobs is also such a leader in their field, they were the resource for Forbes’ recent piece on the top 100 Work from Home companies in 2016.

#5 Meet Edgar:

Founded by social media superstar Laura Roeder, Meet Edgar is a social media sharing automation software designed to help bloggers, online marketers, and digital businesses attract more traffic, more often.

Their team is 100% remote, and is spread across North America.

To give you a snapshot about the ways they’ve conquered common remote work problems: they created a wiki to help with both their onboarding and any internal questions, the entire team works the same hours and stays available on Slack, and they gather all their employees twice a year for a week-long retreat!

You can read more about how they rock it here.

#6 Boldly:

While we don’t like to toot our own horn too often, this year we were recognized by Entrepeneur.com as one of the “Best Entrepeneurial Companies in America”.

Connecting and matching talented project managers, executive administrators, marketers, and customer service pros with the companies who need them — big and small — is a true privilege. The only thing more awesome than the process is the results!

To date, we’ve helped hundreds of companies move their businesses forward with highly talented professionals who become an integral part of their team.

Our rules: Underpromise and overdeliver, put people first (with highly personalized matches), hire the best, and always have a plan B (and a backup VA if you need it!).

We’re also a member of 1 Million for Work Flexibility — a “diverse coalition of companies, nonprofits, and business leaders who understand that work flexibility benefits us all.”

Now, we’d love to hear about YOUR favorite companies leading the remote work revolution!
